Overview

The Virginia Tactical Electronics Systems group within Department 440 is responsible for developing electronic hardware for the control of tactical weapons, payloads, and their associated handling and launching systems. The group's work involves in-house development of embedded control systems; including requirements and specification development, circuit design and analysis, COTS evaluation and selection, prototyping and Engineering Development Model fabrication and test. The group provides construction support as required for fabrication and test. Some of the group's work involves subcontractor management, which consists of specification development, and oversight of vendor efforts. Work performed typically involves safety critical systems, and must be performed with the highest level of quality. The group interfaces with NAVSEA, NUWC, shipyards, design, and the Electronic Development Lab as well as EB Program office and other engineering disciplines, and multiple vendors.

Electric Boat offers Flexible Work Arrangements that allows some work to be performed remotely and at home. This varies from position to position based on the amount of classified material the department interacts with, as well as a few other variables. Responsibilities may include:

    Developing and integrating electronics hardware including procurement and manufacturing
  • Developing system concept of operations
  • Analyzing high-level requirements and documentation to define system and sub-subsystems requirements
  • Collaborating with other electrical, mechanical, ship systems, ship control systems, and systems engineers to develop control logic and define interface requirements
  • Selecting/developing interfacing sensors, actuators, and cabling
  • Defining and managing interfaces
  • Integrating complex systems and components
  • Validating system functionality through hardware and software development efforts
  • Supporting shipboard integration, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Developing system test and environmental qualification plans
  • Developing/performing test procedures and automated software-based test scenarios
  • Supporting system test verification activities
  • Occasional travel
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Electrical Engineering.
  • 0-5 years of related experience
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the department of defense
  • Candidate must be from an organization outside of Operations (Gildart/Gabriel)

  • Strong organizational, communications and interpersonal skills and the ability to function independently. Candidates must be highly motivated team players.
  • Strong written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills to interface with internal and external customers
