Overview

Electric Boat's Platform Systems Engineering department provides systems engineering and integration support to the VIRGINIA, Subsea and Seabed Warfare, COLUMBIA, and SSN(X) submarine design programs. We also support other integration efforts including: TOMAHAWK, Conventional Prompt Strike, Special Operations Forces, and UUVs/UAVs.

Platform Systems Engineers work closely with other internal engineering disciplines, various Navy organizations, and industry partners to ensure successful integration of complex systems within the submarine. The opportunity for engineers to regularly engage with lead engineers, subject matter experts, and the customer is invaluable for skill development and career growth.

Role Detail:

D417 is seeking an engineer to work alongside the current payload system engineers in the development, documentation, and maintenance of technical interfaces for VIRGINIA Class Submarine large diameter vertical payload system designs. Interfaces (physical and functional) play a critical role in the successful integration of payload systems such as the existing TOMAHAWK Land Attack Missile and future vertical weapon or payload systems. Specific responsibilities will include:

Development and maintenance of formal interface control documents (ICDs) to capture existing interfaces and support integration of future payloads and capabilities
  • Determination of technical interfaces and interface requirements with support from internal subject matter experts
  • Frequent interaction with external stakeholders (e.g., payload developers, Government, etc.)
  • Oversight of a change management process to maintain current interface documents in support of future payload integration efforts

More specific assignments and responsibilities will be based on the selected applicants' experience level, skill set, and ambition, as well as on the evolving needs of each project. The roles of the selected candidate will expand as they gain more experience with payload system integration. Some assignments may provide occasional travel opportunities to customer and industry partner locations.

Department 417 offers the ability for some work to be performed remotely/at home. Interested candidates are encouraged to seek additional information about the positions and department from the department Supervisors or other D417 team members.

Skills
  • Strong writing and communication skills are required.
