The Boston Children's Hospital Pediatric Medical-Surgical and Cardiac Intensive Care Units (MSICU and CICU), as well as the Acute Cardiac Care Unit (ACCU), seek board-eligible or certified pediatricians to work as hospital physicians practicing under the supervision and direction of ICU or ACCU attending physicians.
This is an ideal opportunity for new pediatric residency graduates considering or preparing for cardiology or critical care fellowships or other careers in pediatric acute care. Gain expertise in the pathophysiology and management of complex, high-acuity patients, practice procedural skills and help families navigate difficult situations under the instruction and direction of expert Boston Children's Hospital/Harvard Medical School faculty.
Applicants may apply for Medical-Surgical ICU, Cardiac ICU, and/or Acute Cardiac Care positions. Standard work shifts will be 50% daytime and 50% overnight; those who may prefer 100% overnight shifts will also be supported.

Providing care in the Intensive Care Units (ICU), or Acute Cardiac Unit (ACU), hospital physicians in this position are Board-certified or Board-eligible pediatricians practicing under the supervision and direction of the ICU or ACU attending physician. ICU-ACU hospital physicians work alongside pediatric fellows, residents, and nurse practitioners as primary/front-line clinicians on day and night shifts in the ICU or ACU. Under the direction and supervision of the ICU or ACU attending physician, the hospital physicians will assist in the evaluation and management of acute and critical illness. In the ICUs, this will include airway management, vascular access, resuscitation, and other critical care procedures as needed. In addition, the ICU-ACU hospital physicians will participate in unit-based teaching conferences, quality improvement initiatives, and research activities as directed by the respective Department or Division Chief.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Primary/front-line clinician on day and night shifts in the ICU or ACU caring for infants, children, adolescents, and adults with acute or critical illness under the direction and supervision of the ICU or attending physician.
  1. Evaluation and management of acute and critical illness. In the ICUs, this will include assisting in airway management, vascular access, resuscitation, and other critical care procedures as needed
  1. Participate in unit-based teaching conferences, quality improvement, and research activities as directed by the Chief of Service.
  1. Other duties as assigned within the physician's scope of practice.
  1. Standard work shifts will be 50% daytime and 50% overnight; those who may prefer 100% overnight shifts will also be supported.

License Required:
License to Practice Medicine-Massachusetts

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

0

  1. Core knowledge in pediatrics
  1. Distillation and synthesis of vital signs, laboratory, and associated patient care data
  1. Formulation and application of timely and comprehensive plans of care
  1. Proficiency in bedside pediatric diagnostic examination and assessment
  1. Pediatric advanced life support, including basic airway maneuvers (bag-mask ventilation, placement of airway adjuncts), chest compressions, use of cardiac defibrillator.
  1. Evaluation and management of acute and critical illness. In the ICUs, this will include assisting in airway management, vascular access, resuscitation, and other critical care procedures as needed
