The Physical Oceanography Department is currently searching for an ocean Research Assisant II - Ocean Observation Analyst to join their team. This is a regular, full-time, exempt position, and is eligible for benefits.
Argo (www.argo.ucsd.edu) is a global array of autonomous instruments monitoring the oceans in real time. The WHOI Argo Team based in the Physical Oceanography Department is in need of an Ocean Observation Analyst and Manager to be hired at an Research Assistant II level. The role is to analyze, visualize and quality control the data from autonomous Argo floats, as well as improve our tools and approaches to this task. This position is designed to encourage the connection and application of academic training to results-oriented projects in support of scientific research activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Ability to go to sea or travel to ports to perform pre-loading float checkout or deploy floats from vessels.
Candidates should ideally have a Bachelor's degree (ideally a Masters or equivalent experience) in the physical sciences, ideally with some physical oceanographic background. Experience with or an understanding of ocean sensors such as CTDs. Experience with scientific programming and a strong working knowledge of Matlab or Python and Unix scripting.
This job may require travel and occasional sea time.
Physical duties for this position include but are not limited to, ability work with and around others as well as working alone. This position is mostly sedentary. Visual abilities to include near vision. Hear and respond to instructions, communicate effectively. Physical duties are subject to change.
