GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Working directly with the principal investigator, the research technician carries out a broad range of research activities and procedures with varying degrees of latitude to independently determine techniques and establish protocol. S/he is expected to perform lab procedures with speed, method, and precision while understanding the theory and justification behind tests and procedures. S/he will work independently with minimal supervision. The technician is encouraged to identify and carry out his/her own research projects and pursue publications.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs other duties or special projects that are department or unit-specific, and that are appropriate to this level of position.
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
* Knowledge of lab equipment's functionality and capability, including skills necessary for basic maintenance
* Ability to work independently and as a team member.
* Analytical skills and ability to resolve technical problems.
* Ability to interpret the acceptability of data results.
* Working knowledge of data management programs.
* Computer literacy
* Demonstrated competence in research techniques and methodologies.
* Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
* Good organizational skills and flexibility to handle multiple tasks in a busy environment.
* Ability to identify problems and develop effective solutions.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in biological or physical sciences with knowledge on human anatomy or pathology.
