Job Description
As a BMC Lead Technologist, you will support staff, coordinate workflow operations of the department and perform exams to deliver quality patient care. You will be part of an intricate team that ensures the delivery of quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures and professional standards. Our x-ray department performs vital x-ray imaging for all trauma, inpatients and outpatients; these images will assist our providers to accurately diagnose and care for our patients. You will gain a wide range of experience using cutting-edge technology, while working collaboratively with other department teams and our own Radiology Team to help further BMC's mission of providing exceptional care for all

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Diagnostic Imaging

  • Perform appropriate studies in a timely manner, using proper positioning, technique and exposure factors as necessary and required, with a goal to use the lowest dose possible
  • Assist the Radiology Supervisor and Manager in daily operations relating to the technical workings of the department and oversee the workflow for best turnaround times to reduce delays, while also overseeing staff. Always monitoring wait times and reassigning staff as needed to optimize flow.
  • Maintains equipment by placing service calls, performing daily QCs and troubleshooting equipment issues in the moment to reduce downtime.
  • Orders supplies to ensure par levels are always met
  • Schedules and assigns technologists for proper staffing in all xray locations, being mindful of patient care needs, budgets and staffing to department need and volume expected
  • Oversee all x-ray staff, to be there to support, mentor, guide and supervise

Patient Care and Safety

  • Provides patient centered customer service and initiates service recovery when needed to allow for better outcomes to difficult beginnings
  • Filing incident reports as needed for proper follow through of system failures or staff performance breakdown
  • Always checking patient identifiers to validate correct patient name, DOB, MRN, correct exam and laterality ordered, every time
  • Follow established hospital infection control and safety procedures, use AIDET communication framework and follow all policies and procedures

Administrative

  • Document exams properly in Radiology Information System and PACS to ensure all details and required information are included.
  • Maintain professionalism with in-person interactions and also conduct proper phone etiquette with all staff, c0-workers, visitors and patients
  • Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule, to set priorities and solve problems and to respond quickly to emergency requests
  • Performs QC on equipment, rounding on staff to check use of AIDET and properly adhering to National Patient Safety Goals using two patient identifiers
  • Conducts investigatory meetings with Supervisor or Manager when addressing concerns of behavior or technical issues with a staff member and union representative
  • Check Unread lists and communicate exams to the Radiologists for quicker turnaround time

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current Massachusetts Radiologic Technologist License and ARRT Certification and Registration. Current Continuing Education Units
  • Current BLS/CPR Certification required
  • Completion of two years post-high school training in an approved school of radiologic technology
  • Knowledge of the principles and procedures of diagnostic radiology practices and the operation of radiologic equipment
  • 1-2 years of relevant Radiologic Technology work experience in an equivalent hospital setting required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively and professionally with patients, students, hospital staff and all Radiology employees.
  • Detailed writing skills
  • Takes initiative to take on projects to improve department outcomes

The Diagnostic Radiology department at BMC is a full service, academic medical imaging department for both adult and pediatric patients. We perform over 120,000 exams a year on inpatient, outpatient and trauma patients. By utilizing the most sophisticated x-ray imaging
