Position: Research Assistant II, Geriatrics

Location: Boston, MA

Schedule: 40 hours per week, On-site

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Research Assistant II will support a clinical trial/study looking at the efficacy of receiving skilled nursing facility-level care at home as a substitute for traditional facility-based care. The study, Rehabilitation at Home (RAH), involves supporting a multisite randomized controlled trial in Boston. Patients who have been hospitalized and require skilled nursing facility (SNF) rehabilitation care may be eligible to instead receive their care in their own home with the specialized RAH team. This study has the potential to entirely change the way we deliver health care to millions of older adults each year.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recruits subjects to participate in the study by using approved methodologies. Screens candidates for the study (interviewing by phone and in person) to ensure they meet the eligibility criteria.
  • Conducts the enrollment of study participants, including explaining research procedures, and obtaining informed consent of subjects and/or their families. Schedules appointments of study participants; conducts reminder phone calls and/or sends mailouts.
  • The RA will work directly with providers, care teams, patients, and their families. The RA must be comfortable traveling to and operating in office, hospital, and field (SNF and home) sites. Duties include but are not limited to, support screening, recruitment, enrollment, data collection, data analysis, presentations, literature reviews, and manuscript preparation.
  • Provides assistance in the development of reports, presentations, and data analysis. Assists in data collection and provides feedback on study's progress. Begins to synthesize and interpret results. May prepare written and verbal status reports. Uses statistical and graphic summaries.
  • Conducts literature searches. Assists Investigators with manuscript and presentation preparation and research.

ADMINISTRATIVE

  • Performs office-related duties such as answering phones, picking up and delivering mail, ordering and distributing office supplies, handling faxes, scanning, filing, photocopying, collating materials, maintaining the update of policy manuals, etc.
  • Responsible for the administrative aspects of the research study, including: managing program records and handling communication needs of the program.
  • Prepares and maintains Institutional Review Board (IRB) approvals and correspondence, including amendments and renewals as necessary.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline is required. Masters degree a plus.
  • With a Master's Degree, no work experience is required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of1+ years of experience in research or clinical program activities required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • Experience with recruiting subjects, with an understanding of the ethical and technical conduct of research.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Excellent English communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Bilingual or multi-lingual skills (beyond that of English) appropriate to the patient population served is a plus.
  • Cultural sensitivity and comfort with a wide range of social, racial and ethnic populations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Access and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to perform basic data management tasks (coding, data entry, data cleaning, retrieval). Experience with statistical analysis tools a plus.
  • Experience using quantitative data analysis software helpful (e.g., SPSS, SAS, Minitab).

This position is funded by a 2 year grant. There may be opportunity beyond this grant funding for position integration into ongoing operations.
