Job Description

Summary:
Under direct supervision and according to established procedures cleans disinfects and maintains endoscopes and accessories. Ensures appropriate supply levels are maintained. Picks up and delivers supplies equipment x-ray cassettes etc. as necessary. May provide assistance to patients before during and after exams as appropriate. Performs light housekeeping duties to maintain area in a clean and orderly fashion.

Responsibilities:
Sets up cleaning room to perform activities. According to established instructions and aseptic techniques cleans and disinfects endoscopes and accessories. Performs basic maintenance of equipment troubleshooting minor problems as appropriate referring more complex repairs to the appropriate internal/external sources. Cleans lead aprons monthly or as needed.

Tests disinfecting solutions daily to ensure effectiveness; adds or changes solutions as necessary.

Packages and labels equipment and supplies to be delivered to Central Services for sterilization procedures.

Ensures appropriate levels of supplies are maintained to meet expected needs; advises supervisor of need for additional supplies; restocks/stores materials to their proper location as received.

Picks up and delivers a variety of materials to support activities of department including transport of x-ray cassettes to and from Diagnostic Imaging Department and delivery/pick of equipment/supplies to Central Services picks up supplies/material from Pharmacy Dietetics Laboratory and the like.

Maintains cleanliness of work area including ensuring refrigerator in maintained clean and free from spills. Assists nursing personnel in room setup in anticipation of daily schedule; restocking rooms as necessary. May assist nurse to close rooms at end of day.

As requested by nurse may provide assistance to patients such as assisting in dressing/undressing providing refreshments and the like.

Prepares and maintains records and reports related to activities including equipment sent for repair and sterilization; solution testing/changing etc.

Other information:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Level of knowledge generally obtained through completion of High School.

Knowledge of aseptic techniques in order to properly clean and disinfect equipment.

Clerical and numerical ability to prepare and maintain solutions inventory levels records/reports.

Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients when providing assistance to nurses.


EXPERIENCE:

Up to one month on-the-job training and experience to become familiar with procedures specific to area assigned including aseptic techniques.



Previous knowledge of disinfecting techniques preferred.



WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Frequent walking/standing to perform cleaning and transport duties.



Patient care environment with some exposure to infectious diseases and exposure to strong disinfecting solutions.



Hazards are minimized with adherence to established safety policies and procedures.
