Position Summary

We are seeking a Director, Clinical Scientist with recognized expertise in cell and gene therapy products. As a thought leader in your field, you will operate autonomously in a complex environment, contributing significantly to research strategy while addressing business and regulatory cell and gene therapy issues. This role involves leading project teams impacting the organization at the highest level.

This position is available in Gaithersburg, MD, New York City, NY, Waltham, MA, or South San Francisco, CA

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a line manager to one or more clinical scientists within the Cell Therapy Delivery Team, providing mentorship to junior team members.
  • Collaborate closely with program and study-level cell therapy delivery team or therapeutic area (ie: hematology) physicians or clinical leads, providing medical and scientific guidance on investigational cell therapy development.
  • Provide medical and scientific support for the development and implementation of cell therapy studies, including protocol development, electronic data capture database development, safety assessment, IB/DSUR submissions, and clinical data review with a focus on the specificities of cell and gene therapy.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of junior clinical scientists within the team.
  • Provide strategic input to non-assigned programs and the global clinical scientist team.
  • Engage with diverse business partners both within and external to the Cell Therapy Delivery team and to AstraZeneca or Neogene, a subsidiary of AstraZeneca.
  • Lead other Clinical Scientists, including project allocations/resource management, recruitment & selection, and performance management.
  • Hire, lead, and develop one or more clinical scientists as required by the program and business needs.

Education and Experience

  • Advanced degree in a relevant scientific discipline (MD, PhD, PharmD, MPH).
  • Experience in developing cell and gene therapy products.
  • Proven track record of operating independently in a complex environment.
  • Strong leadership and mentorship skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
