Overview

This position's work location is fully remote with the expectation of being onsite 1-2x/month as needed. The selected candidate may only work remotely from a New England state (ME, VT, NH, MA, CT, RI).

The Tech Transfer Accountant I will play an important role in the Accounting and Finance functions of the Belfer Office for Dana-Farber Innovations (BODFI). The individual will primarily interface with BODFI's Sr. Technology Transfer Accountant and its Senior Manager Finance and Operations, in addition to other BODFI Operations and Licensing staff. His/her duties will include general accounting functions involving preparation, analysis, reconciliation, interpretation, and maintenance of financial information in BODFI's current database. This individual will also assist in the implementation of new or modified accounting systems, and in the coordination and preparation of reports and audits for BODFI Finance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development, implementation and operation of systems and processes to support the activities and goals of BODFI's financial operations.
  • Responsible for monitoring regarding all BODFI receivables including sponsored research funding and licensing revenue.
  • Working with DFCI General Accounting and BODFI Finance, assists with the distribution of licensing revenue to internal DFCI accounts, inventors, and outside third parties.
  • Work with BODFI's Business Analyst, BODFI Finance, and, on occasion, other pertinent departments, to research and resolve data and system discrepancies as they relate to financial operations.
  • Provide detailed reconciliations and analyses for assigned duties and special projects.
  • Will perform other related duties as needed and assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Accounting, Finance or business-related field.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of related work experience, preferably in the health care or academic research environment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Technical and professional accounting skills, including strong reconciliation skills;
  • The ability to develop and maintain computer-based, automated accounting systems, accounting procedures and controls;
  • Familiarity with policies and procedures related to responsibilities;
  • Appropriate oral and written communication skills;
  • Must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills as BODFI interfaces with many different internal departments and external companies, law firms, and other academic and not-for-profit institutions;
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work independently and be committed to working closely with others in a team-oriented approach;
  • Must possess a customer-service philosophy and be able to handle problem solving and issue resolution;
  • Performs primary duties, as directed, and requires direct supervision;
  • After initial training period, able to perform regular monthly tasks independently and report results to manager;
  • A strong understanding of and facility with software applications including Microsoft Word and Excel, and databases is essential.
